Understanding Fidelity Testing in Relationships
By Olympic Mountain Polygraph, LLC
Fidelity, or relationship, polygraph examinations are designed to address one of the most sensitive and emotionally charged issues a couple can face—trust. When questions of honesty arise, some couples choose to pursue a professional polygraph examination to obtain clarity and factual insight. While no test can heal emotional pain, a properly conducted examination can help bring truth to light and support informed decisions moving forward.
Purpose and Process
A fidelity polygraph examination focuses on specific issues related to truthfulness within a relationship. The process begins with a confidential pre-test interview, during which the examiner reviews all relevant information, ensures the questions are clearly understood, and explains the procedures in detail. Only validated question formats are used, following standards set by the American Polygraph Association (APA).
During the data collection phase, the examinee’s physiological responses—such as breathing, heart rate, and skin conductivity—are recorded while answering carefully structured questions. After the examination, the examiner analyzes the data and provides a written report summarizing their professional opinion based on the physiological evidence.
What to Expect
At Olympic Mountain Polygraph, fidelity examinations are handled with discretion, professionalism, and neutrality. The examiner’s role is not to judge or counsel but to provide an accurate and unbiased assessment of truthfulness. No post-test discussion or interpretation session occurs; instead, results are delivered in a written report, typically within a few hours of the exam.
Because of the emotional nature of these cases, it is recommended that both parties agree in advance to respect the process and the results. Many clients find that having verified information—whether confirming honesty or revealing deception—allows them to move forward with greater clarity and peace of mind.
Confidentiality and Professional Standards
All examinations are conducted in accordance with APA Standards of Practice and the highest ethical principles of the profession. Information shared during a fidelity examination remains strictly confidential and is released only to the authorized client(s).
Scheduling an Examination
Olympic Mountain Polygraph conducts fidelity examinations by appointment only. Examinations are typically completed within two to three hours, and written results are emailed the same day.
